The San Diego Aerospace Museum and Biplane, Air Combat & Warbird Adventures announced today a new affiliation that will allow museum guests to literally let their dreams take flight. A joint marketing agreement will give museum visitors the ability to purchase discounted rides in authentic vintage aircraft and lay the foundation for new flight-related activities.
Ken Curtis, President and CEO of the San Diego Aerospace Museum said, "There's no doubt that our world-class collection of aircraft, aviation memorabilia and interactive displays are an extraordinary celebration of the history of aviation that educate our visitors, but we want to go further. We want to give them an experience that will inspire them."
According to Kate Lister, President of Biplane, Air Combat & Warbird Adventures, "This relationship is a perfect fit. The museum shows visitors aviation's past, present and future. We let them experience it. There's no way to appreciate real flying, flying like it used to be, except to do it yourself."
A museum ticket stub saves museum visitors $5 on one of three signature flights: a gentle or thrilling ride in a 1920's open cockpit biplane, a pulse-pounding U-Fly-It Top Dog Air Combat flight, or an exhilarating ride in an authentic WWII warbird that includes loops and rolls. Ride tickets are available for purchase at the museum and online at Biplane, Air Combat & Warbird Adventures Web site (www.barnstorming.com). Museum tickets are also available on the Web site.
The new relationship will allow the two organizations to expand and enhance special events offerings. Aviation-themed parties are available at the museum, located in downtown San Diego in beautiful Balboa Park, and at Palomar Airport in North County San Diego.
Party activities at the San Diego Aerospace Museum include fascinating tours of the restoration areas and simulator rides in the Morphis™ MovieRide. The simulator takes guests on a journey through the history of flight beginning with the Wright brothers and continuing through the space age.
Hangar parties at Palomar Airport in Carlsbad offers groups the option of adding vintage aircraft rides to their high-flyin' event. Among others, groups from BMW, Microsoft, Pfizer and notables including The Crown Prince of Tonga and Princess Leah from Star Wars (Carrie Fisher) have enjoyed flights in the skies over the Pacific and along North County San Diego beaches.
In addition to the unique flights and the party venues, the two organizations will develop a calendar of special public aviation activities, establish a North County San Diego museum presence, develop unique aviation-oriented travel packages, cooperate on variety of marketing strategies, and enhance fundraising opportunities through alliances with visiting historic aircraft.
Selected as San Diego's best non-art museum, the San Diego Aerospace Museum celebrates the history of aviation and space flight, educates the public in aerospace technology, and inspires young people of all ages to excel in math and the sciences through dynamic exhibits and comprehensive programs. The first aero theme museum to receive accreditation by the American Association of Museums in 1986, the museum is located in the historic Ford Building in Balboa Park.
