oronado Island is sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay and can be accessed by a short drive over the Coronado Bay Bridge, built in 1960. For the more adventurous you can also enter or exit Coronado on "The Silver Strand" a scenic seven mile strip of land. Coronado is considered to be an island but in fact it is a narrow peninsula.

Coronado Island is the perfect place for swimming, biking, sailing, dining, or shopping. You can also stroll through the Ferry Landing Marketplace to take in the magnificent panoramic views of Downtown San Diego, or the spectacular sunsets.

Begin your visit to Coronado Island by stopping at the Visitor Center located in the Museum of History in the center of downtown, at 1100 Orange Avenue. Here you can plan your day and pick up maps, calendar of events, tours, discount tickets, attraction times and prices and information on what to see on the island. Take time to visit the museum to learn about Coronado’s past.

The Hotel Del Coronado is located at the south end of the island and is a must see National Historic Landmark dating back to 1888. The oldest wooden building in the world with it's Victorian architecture still attracts tourists from around the world. The Hotel del Coronado can be seen in all it's grandeur from Orange Avenue.

Explore Ferry Landing Marketplace at the foot of First Street with its shops, restaurants and stunning views of downtown San Diego. You can also board the ferry for a 15-minute trip between Coronado & San Diego. The Ferry leaves Coronado Island every 30 minutes and offers views of military ships, the San Diego Downtown Coastline and Coronado. When you disembark the ferry on the San Diego side, you can stroll down to the Maritime museum and tour the Star of India or relax by the ocean and dine at any number of fine restaurants including Anthony's Seafood and Ruth Chris Steakhouse.

Getting around is as variable as the things to see on the island. You can take a walk, drive, or rent a bike. Miles of bike paths follow the coastline to see some of Coronado’s spectacular sights while getting some exercise. Bike rentals are available at Holland’s and Bikes & Beyond at Ferry Landing. Additionally, there are boat rentals, so you can cruise the bay in a sail boat or yacht.

Antiques, crafts, art and shops of all types await to tempt you on Coronado Island, and there are more than 70 restaurants and eateries, offering everything from hot dogs to seafood and everything else between. Many restaurants have outdoor seating so you can also enjoy Coronado’s seaside flavor while dining.

Your choices of water activities are endless, you can swim, surf, skate and picnic on any number of Coronado Beaches, Silver Strand State Beaches or if your traveling companion happens to be of the four legged variety, there is the popular Dog Beach.

Each Sunday evening at 6 p.m. the Summer Concert Series at Spreckles Park presents a free concert for visitors and residents alike. What better way end your excursion of the island than with a outdoor concert. The concert series performs from Memorial Day through mid-September. Admission is free.
